Acupuncture is an ancient method of pain relief originating in China, that has now been developed for modern use.  Very thin needles are inserted into specific areas of the body called acupuncture points.  This then stimulates the body to produce its own pain-relieving chemicals called “endorphins”.  These endorphins help to decrease pain and promote healing and relaxation.  Acupuncture also works by disrupting pain signals being sent to the brain when the nerve fiber is activated.   The needles used in acupuncture are sterile and used only once. The needles may be stimulated either by hand or with electric stimulation. After use, they are discarded safely.
