TESTIMONIALS

"Dr. Sarlas is incredible. I had a herniated and bulging disc and I was walking with a walker and cane when I went to see him. I was also walking on an angle. I wanted to be able to walk again. I no longer have any of these problems thanks to him. I would highly recommend him. I walk without a walker, cane and walk straight. Thankyou,"

"Dr. Sarlas is a miracle worker. I suffered with migraines for years and he fixed me in 2 months"

About Royal Chiropractic Centre

Royal Chiropractic is owned and operated by Dr. Angelo Sarlas and opened its doors in 2001.  Royal Chiropractic has evolved from a two-room chiropractic office to one of the busiest chiropractic clinics in southern Manitoba. From very modest beginnings, Dr. Sarlas grew his practice by providing chiropractic care with a patient-centered focus.

Then in 2015, Dr. Sarlas became one of the founding partners of Prairie Fitness & Rehab, which is an athletic therapy, rehabilitation, and training facility located right behind Royal Chiropractic. This has allowed multi-professional collaboration between health professions to be fostered in an organic way, and supports Dr. Sarlas's treatment philosophy, which is to put his patient's needs and care first.

Dr. Sarlas started out his post secondary education at the University of Manitoba where he majored in Chemistry. Afterwards, he was accepted into the Doctorate of Chiropractic program at Life University in Marietta Georgia, graduating in 2001.

Dr. Sarlas opened Royal Chiropractic in 2001 and has proudly served Portage la Prairie and surrounding areas for over 19 years. Throughout his career,

Dr. Sarlas has obtained additional certifications and course work in cupping massage, sports injury prevention and rehab, functional capacity evaluations/work-hardening programming, neurofascial release, pediatric focused chiropractic care, and his Level 1 provider status with SHIFT Concussion Rehab and Management.

In 2015, Prairie Fitness & Rehab was opened behind Royal Chiropractic within the same building.  This was due, largely in part to better serve his own patients by bringing in fitness, rehabilitation, and injury care providers.

In the past few years, Dr. Sarlas has also worked closely with the Central Plains Capitals hockey organization as their head on-bench trainer and concussion care provider.

In his spare time Dr. Sarlas enjoys working out, attending Winnipeg Jets games, reading, and spending time with his family.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE:

Chiropractic care in general terms is the hands-on, conservative management of the neuromusculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine. Back and neck pain are two of the most common ailments chiropractors treat, although by no means are these the only conditions that can be treated by a doctor of chiropractic.

Chiropractic Care is:

- noninvasive
- recognizes other lifestyle factors on overall health and wellness
- emphasizes a patient-centered, hands-on approach with the intent to help function
- recognizes the centrality of the nervous system and its intimate relationship
with both the structural and regulatory capacities of the body
- strives towards early intervention with timely diagnosis and treatment of functional conditions.

Torque release Technique (TRT):

Dr. Sarlas primarily uses the Torque release technique (TRT), although he has been trained in all forms of manual chiropractic adjustments and treatment. TRT is a light-force adjustment method that uses gentle touch and pressure by hand, along with a tool called an integrator. The torque release method allows the nervous system to better integrate and understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the brain and spinal cord. TRT releases tensions on the spinal cord by correcting subluxations of spinal segments connected with the
meninges or attachments of the spinal cord. Analysis and correction with TRT are not limited to just the area with pain or symptoms, and spinal corrections do not stop once your treatment is over. They will continue as you breathe, and as you move throughout the day.

CUSTOM ORTHOTICS:

Orthotics are devices or supports used to prevent or correct abnormal walking patterns by alerting the angles that the foot strikes the ground when walking or running. Royal Chiropractic is pleased to offer custom made orthotics to help treat conditions such as: plantar fasciitis, bursitis, tendinitis, and ankle, foot, or heel pain. We start with a general assessment with focus on gait, function, and posture. Along with this information we then take pictures of stance and step from all angles, as well as, a mold of both feet, and measurements. All the information collected , along with a diagnosis is sent to our orthotic manufacturer, Healthwest, where a set of custom orthotics is made.

Turn around time for a full set of custom-made orthotics can be anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Most health insurance plans cover most, or a portion of the cost of custom orthotics.

Full set custom orthotics: $350

CONCUSSION CARE:

Treatment and care after a concussion requires individualized care. This is because no one concussion is the same nor are the effects it has on each person uniform. At Royal Chiropractic we provide the following concussion related services:

Concussion Assessment:

If you have been diagnosed with a concussion by a medical doctor or you suspect you may have a concussion a thorough post-injury assessment is extremely valuable. This assessment will include a physical evaluation, and possibly a computerized neurocognitive test, if symptoms allow. This evaluation allows your provider insight into the severity of your injury, as well as, the specific ailments that may need to be addressed as you rehab your injury. If your provider suspects a concussion, and you do not have a formal diagnosis by your medical doctor, you will
be advised to see your medical doctor.
Only medical doctors may diagnose a concussion, however, SHIFT concussion providers can play a key role in the rehab and management of a concussion once it takes place. Conversely, if a concussion is suspected, SHIFT concussion providers are trained to identify a possible concussion and to work closely with your medical doctors by providing referrals, if needed to your doctor and possibly recommended accommodations to your employer and/or school.

Concussion Rehab:

Dr. Sarlas is a certified Level 1 SHIFT Concussion Rehab and Management provider.  SHIFT concussion providers use management strategies to limit the amount of impairment, as well as, expedite recovery as much as possible.

Strategies used may involve the following:
- manual therapy for associated physical complaints
- vestibular and ocular rehabilitation for dizziness, motion sensitivity, balance disorders, and other visual complaints
- physical exertion testing and exercise plans
- education around the injury and strategies for rest and recovery
- recommendations around work and other life demands

Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS):

Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS) is a very complex disorder with a wide range of symptoms. Some people will sustain a concussion and after a time will be fine. Others, will sustain a concussion and develop PCS. For more information on PCS, the symptoms associated with PCS, and how we may be able to help, please click on the

Baseline Testing:

Over the past few years there has been growing emphasis on objective baseline testing protocols to use as a tool to help track a patient’s recovery and serve as a tangible measurement for return-to-play readiness. Typically baseline testing would be done through our mobile clinic on athletes age 15+, during the pre-season.
Baseline testing assesses memory, reaction time, processing speed, visual coordination skills, vestibular functions, balance, and posture stability. Please feel free to contact us at 204-857-4524, should you have any questions about
the services we offer.
